Sports
Riverside offers its students a chance to learn and excel in a
wide variety of sporting related activities. These include
athletics, football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, tennis,
badminton, table tennis and chess.
There is a dedicated time set aside every day to pursue these
activities. The junior students (up to the 5th standard) are
taught all the various disciplines. Students above the 6th
standard are required to choose one main sport in which they
concentrate on year round. We believe that this would help in
fostering excellence in the chosen field. Seniors are also given
a chance to participate in other sports if they choose to do so.
Ground facilities at Riverside include one football ground, one
junior football ground, two cricket practice pitches, areas for
fielding practice and athletics, three volleyball courts, three
basketball courts and two tennis courts. There is also an indoor
badminton court in a large multi purpose auditorium. This
auditorium is also equipped with several table tennis boards.
The library has several chess sets and children are also
encouraged to play chess on the computers available. A
fully-equipped gym and a squash court are also shortly to be
constructed.
In order to impart the best possible training, in addition to
the qualified physical education teachers, several talented
sportspersons from the local area are altruistically involved in
coaching the students in their relevant disciplines.
The head of our sports department Mr. Govindan has represented
the national side.
